Making impact together

What makes our academic environment unique is the strong connection between healthcare, research and education. We work across departmental and disciplinary boundaries, enabling us to create real impact. Whether you work directly with patients or behind the scenes, collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. By working together, we develop ideas, research and innovations — and we are able to translate results quickly into everyday practice.

Innovating with and for each other

Together, we develop smart apps that support healthcare. We use artificial intelligence to improve and accelerate diagnoses. We analyse complex data to help prevent disease. And we continuously develop our education programmes to support lifelong learning for healthcare professionals. Whatever your role or field of expertise, by working with and for each other, we help improve healthcare.

A better climate for better health

The climate and energy crisis has major consequences for health — directly and indirectly, now and in the future. That is why we focus on research into meaningful solutions, while also taking a critical look at our own footprint. Did you know that our new main building is the most sustainable hospital building in Western Europe? We use thermal energy storage, have a green campus with space for nature, and our plastic-free restaurant mainly serves plant-based, locally sourced products. With nearly 13,000 colleagues and around 180,000 patients each year, these choices truly make a difference. So join us — you’ll have plenty of room to share ideas and help make our work and our organisation even more sustainable.

Sustainable healthcare

For us, healthcare is about more than treatment alone. We believe in sustainable healthcare: care that works today and remains viable for the future. That is why we embrace the principles of positive health. We look beyond illness and focus on what people need to feel healthy, resilient and engaged. This means placing greater emphasis on health and behaviour, rather than on care alone. Prevention, collaboration and network-based care play an increasingly important role. Together, we are building healthcare that is more personal, future-proof and truly meaningful.

Sustainable operations

Sustainability is not an afterthought for us, but a conscious choice. We are working towards climate-neutral and circular operations, with responsible use of people, resources and the environment at the core. From energy use to procurement, and from buildings to processes, we design our supporting operations to be sustainable and future-ready. Our green campus plays an important role in this. A pleasant, natural environment contributes to the wellbeing of patients, visitors, students and employees alike. Together, we create a healthy place to care, learn and work — today and tomorrow.

Sustainable education and research

Sustainable research means taking a critical look at what we do, why we do it and how we do it. Even before a project begins, we make a thoughtful decision: does this research add value, and are we conducting it in a way that prevents waste and uses people and resources responsibly?

Sustainability is also embedded throughout our education. We minimise waste where possible and integrate sustainable thinking into everything we teach. In this way, we educate students and professionals who are not only highly skilled, but who also consciously contribute to a future-proof healthcare system and society.
